Presbyopic Implantable Contact Lenses (IPCL)

Implantable contact lens surgery has been available for some time already to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism and make patients independent of spectacles for distance vision.
Now available is an IPCL that can not only correct your myopia or hyperopia, but also presbyopia. Presbyopia is the normal age-related change in the eye that makes reading fine print difficult, and starts from the age of 45 onwards. This is why people require reading glasses or multifocal spectacles from their mid forties onwards. This new IPCL can make you independent of spectacles for both distance and near vision, while retaining your own natural crystalline lens. It is therefore suitable for patients between the age of 45 and 55.
The IPCL is like a soft contact lens that is inserted into the eye through a 2.8mm incision and is placed behind the iris, in front of your natural crystalline lens. It is made from reinforced hybrid acrylic material to ensure excellent long term performance and it cannot be rejected by the body. The lens is customized according to the shape and size of each eye and is available in a wide power range.
Two tiny holes at the optical zone margin ensure continues aqueous flow from the posterior chamber to the anterior chamber. These holes are placed superiorly to avoid any glare or scattering of light due to the holes.
This safe and reversible new surgical technology provides excellent quality of vision and fast recovery. Your natural corneal asphericity is retained and no corneal tissue is removed. Because your natural lens remains in your eye, accommodation is preserved. Results are very stable over time and there is no regression.
For more information about this new refractive surgery technology please contact us on 021 9100 300 or info@eyelaserclinic.co.za.

                                Introduce about IPCL

10 % patients who want to have LASIK surgery can’t have LASIK surgery, because abnormal corneal shape or not enough corneal thickness for LASIK is found by screening test. We can provide better vision as LASIK for no LASIK candidate patients. This new methods name is implantable phakic contact lens (IPCL). These new surgery methods just lens implantation to posterior chamber, easy and can get better vision than LASIK surgery. This lens is also removable and safe. IPCL can treat for high myopia and astigmatism that can’t treat LASIK and hyperopia, and presbyopia. If you have high myopia over -6.0D, IPCL is the best choice for your treatment of high myopia.

Protecting Your Eyes from Solar Radiation

The sun supports all life on our planet, but its life-giving rays also pose dangers.

The sun’s primary danger is in the form of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation is a component of solar radiation, but it can also be given off by artificial sources like welding machines, tanning beds and lasers.
Most are aware of the harm UV radiation can do to the skin, but many may not realize that exposure to UV radiation can harm the eyes or that other components of solar radiation can also affect vision.
There are three types of UV radiation: UV-C is absorbed by the ozone layer and does not present any threat; UV-A and UV-B radiation can have adverse long- and short-term effects on the eyes and vision.
If your eyes are exposed to excessive amounts of UV radiation over a short period of time, you are likely to experience an effect called photokeratitis.

Like a “sunburn of the eye”, photokeratitis may be painful and include symptoms such as red eyes, a foreign body sensation or gritty feeling in the eyes, extreme sensitivity to light and excessive tearing. Fortunately, this is usually temporary and rarely causes permanent damage to the eyes.
Long-term exposure to UV radiation, however, can be more serious. Scientific studies and research have shown that exposure to small amounts of UV radiation over a period of many years increases the chance of developing a cataract and may cause damage to the retina, a nerve-rich lining of the eye that is used for seeing. Additionally, chronic exposure to shorter wavelength visible light (i.e. blue and violet light) may also be harmful to the retina.
The longer the eyes are exposed to solar radiation, the greater the risk of developing later in life such conditions as cataracts or macular degeneration. Since it is not clear how much exposure to solar radiation will cause damage, the AOA recommends wearing quality sunglasses that offer UV protection and wearing a hat or cap with a wide brim whenever you spend time outdoors. Also, certain contact lenses can provide additional UV protection.
To provide adequate protection for your eyes, sunglasses should:
    • block out 99 to 100 percent of both UV-A and UV-B radiation;
    • screen out 75 to 90 percent of visible light;
    • be perfectly matched in color and free of distortion and imperfection; and
    • have lenses that are gray for proper color recognition.
The lenses in sunglasses should be made from polycarbonate or Trivex® material if you participate in potentially eye-hazardous work or sports. These lenses provide the most impact resistance.
If you spend a lot of time outdoors in bright sunlight, wrap around frames can provide additional protection from the harmful solar radiation.
Don’t forget protection for children and teenagers. They typically spend more time in the sun than adults.
Be sure to see your doctor of optometry at least every two years [recommended schedule of examinations] for a comprehensive eye examination. It is a good way to monitor your eye health, maintain good vision and keep track of your solar radiation protection needs as well as new advances in eye protection.

    Micheal's Refractive Lense Exchange surgery

    1. What convinced you to go through with the surgery? And what made you choose this Clinic?
I had worked in Korea and knew people who had used Korean surgery before so felt confident with this. I looked on-line and read the different recommendations and also noted that a group, I belong to, mentioned your clinic  in their newsletter.
    2. Tell us about what has changed since you had your surgery. What are the major changes, comparing your life before and now after, the surgery?

The major changes include being able to work better at my teaching job because I have clearer eyesight. I love being able to watch a show and see it all so clearly, (but, I don't like the fact that i can see all the lines on my face which were not so obvious to me before. I am really  so pleased to have done this surgery.
    3. Were there any inconveniences during the recovery process? Tell us about how satisfied you are with your newly improved vision.

Any inconveniences were so minor, like wearing an eye patch for 4 hours, or remembering to use the eye drops, that they are not really worth mentioning. It was all worth it. I am more than satisfied with my new eyes.
    4. What were the most valuable and memorable experiences at Joeunnun Eye Clinic?

The staff were all so very helpful and understanding. English was not a problem as Moon Joo and others had enough English to understand my needs (thank you). The surgeon was considerate and careful and explained the procedure, so i was not afraid.
    5. Finally, what else do you want to tell us (our medical staff, doctors, and nurses)? Anything is OK, including some of your ideas that may help  us to improve ourselves.

You all did a very good job. The only suggestion I have is better instructions for finding your clinic. Your map is not clear to us foreigners and even when we asked some Chinese people to help they could not. I would suggest you draw a new map and add the MacDonald's location to it.  Also include that it is within 15 steps of exit 12 or something along these lines.

Thank you to the staff, including nurses, doctors and reception. You all helped make this a comfortable experience and I have recommended your clinic to friends.

    Z4 SCOUT LASIK

The staffs were friendly and helpful, Doctor seemed to competent and gentle.
I was mildly off put by the giggles from surgical support staff who fumbled and dropped equipment and were seemingly inept at adminstering analygisic eye drops before the surgery. The surgery was comfortable even though I was a bit worried about my eyes However considering that lasers were cutting holes through my eyeballs It was surprisingly minor procedure. All in all regarding the surgery, It was quick, relatively painless and the doctor seemed competent.I would have consider this a fantastic procesure,  However unfortunately as the anesthesis were off the pain became so excruciating that my eye muscles bagan to spasm continuely. I was concerned that this contractions may have affected the healing prrocess and the outcome of the surgery.
what irks me is that the simple prescription of the anelgesic eyedrops, or a single dose of a muscle relaxent, or an opite would have mitigated the contractions releaved the pain and allow the patient to sleep through the healing process.
Now after 1 month, My eyes are getting better and I am very happy with the result that I could see better without glasses,  Thank you for the help and wish to be your business goes well.

      * Like what I said. I think because every person has different level of pain nervs, It would help the patients more if they would have proper medicines for after surgery.

I am staying in China for a job then I decided to google nearest countries who have the best Eye Clinic.I found one clinic with excellent review, JOENUNUN VISION CLINIC.I was hesitant in the beginning whether to do it or not because I'm worried about the language. I emailed them and they emailed back very fast . I went to Korea in their clinic for consultation ,Dr.  Kim   Explained me the nature of surgery in a very understanding manner and confidence to have fearless surgery, they tried their best to explained it to me in English. I was alone during the operation after the procedure they helped me to go to my hotel because my eyes are still blurry which is normal after the procedure.. They even help me order me pizza for my dinner. Doctor and the clinic staff were amazing . I have a better life after my surgery, no more reading glases. Five Important Habits to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Five Important Habits to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

    fruit&vegetables
Imagine how many millions of people around the world work every day between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or over in front of the computer. More and more people suffer from vision problems because eye care is taken for granted.
It is very important that our eyes need time to rest after working for long hours in front of the computer or a game console, watching television or reading a book. However, rest for some people could mean reading a book, watching TV or playing computer games, which still requires the eyes to be stressed and get tired.
Although these activities could sometimes be unavoidable, just remember to take a few minutes off at what you’re doing and rest your eyes. Observing proper eye care can prevent poor eyesight or vision loss as you age.
Here are some important habits on how to take care of your eyes:

    1. Eat foods that are good for your eyes.
Important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in foods and strengthen the eyesight are beta carotene, lutein, vitamins A, C and E, omega-3 fatty acids and zinc.

    2. Make your working environment comfortable.
Computer vision syndrome is a type of eye fatigue that strains the eyes. Observe proper posture when working and keep your computer monitor below eye level and at least 20 to 26 inches away from your eyes. Wear proper graded eyeglasses to protect your eyes from the glare. Furthermore, use a glare filter for your monitor.
    3. Wear sunglasses.
Wearing sunglasses protects the eyes against direct sun exposure; and UVA and UVB rays.
    4. Use proper lighting when working.
Make sure that your light is not too bright or low when working. Lower intensity bulbs and fluorescent lights are ideal to use as lighting condition for your work area. In addition, adjust your computer’s brightness, text size and contrast that properly suit your vision and make you feel comfortable.
    5. Take a break and exercise.
Do some stretching and exercise to prevent computer vision syndrome, back pains and eye fatigue. Eye doctors advise to look up and away from the computer for at least 20 minutes to relax the muscles inside the eyes.
Practicing these tips shows that you love and value your eyes. You will surely enjoy good eyesight for a very long time.

    5 Foods for Healthy Eyes

You've probably heard that carrots and other orange-colored fruits and vegetables promote eye health and protect vision, and it's true: Beta-carotene, a type of vitamin A that gives these foods their orange hue, helps the retina and other parts of the eye to function smoothly.

But eating your way to good eyesight isn't only about beta-carotene. Though their connection to vision isn't as well-known, several other vitamins and minerals are essential for healthy eyes. Make these five foods a staple of your diet to keep your peepers in tip-top shape.

    Leafy greens

They're packed with lutein and zeaxanthin—antioxidants that, studies show, lower the risk of developing macular degeneration and cataracts.

    Eggs

The yolk is a prime source of lutein and zeaxanthin—plus zinc, which also helps reduce your macular degeneration risk.

    Citrus and berries

These fruits are powerhouses of vitamin C, which has been shown to reduce the risk of developing macular degeneration and cataracts.

    Almonds

They're filled with vitamin E, which slows macular degeneration, research shows. One handful (an ounce) provides about half of your daily dose of E.

    Fatty fish

Tuna, salmon, mackerel, anchovies and trout are rich in DHA, a fatty acid found in your retina

    Tri-focal intra ocular lens surgery

Mr. Trygve Davidsen visited here,JOEUNNUN EYE INTERNATIONAL CLINIC on september 4th,2015.
He got informations of Presbyopia surgery on our website and he was interested in Refractive Lense Exchange( R.L.E). We had been contacting through e-mail all about surgery.
His pre-operation vision was +0.50-0.25x105x20/20,+1.25-1.50x85x20/25. He had a mild farsightness and moderate dgree of presbyopia. So he usesd a reading glasses and he want to be free for a reading glasses and optain fine vision.
He got a detatil exam and consultation and we recommend him intra-ocular lens toThe ZEISS At Lisa Tri 839 MP. He could read 20/20 far and near vision from next day and He came back to China on next day after surgery.

Outstanding intermediate vision with AT LISA tri 839MP

The ZEISS AT LISA tri family offers the outstanding intermediate visual performance that can only be achieved with a real trifocal IOL design.
The superior intermediate vision with the ZEISS AT LISA tri family becomes evident when compared to an apodized bifocal IOL or a trifocal IOL with convolution design. Due to the intermediate addition of +1.66, the ZEISS AT LISA tri family significantly improves visual acuity at the intermediate distance, enabling your patients to feel more comfortable performing daily activities in this vision range.

    Laser Blended Vision(LBV)

What is Laser Blended Vision (LBV)?

Blended Vision is an advanced method for treating patients with presbyopia. It offers the opportunity to achieve freedom from glasses by combining the simplicity and accuracy of corneal refractive surgery with the benefits of increased depth of field in retaining visual quality. As a surgical solution based on the naturally occurring spherical aberrations of the eye, blended vision extends the scope of customized ablation beyond the limits of conventional monovision laser methods in several ways.

    How is it achieved?

Similar to conventional monovision, the dominant eye is corrected for distance vision, whereas the non-dominant eye is corrected to be slightly myopic for near vision. This micro-monovision strategy is further enhanced by a decisive difference: an increase in the depth of field of each eye using a wavefront-optimized ablation profile to create a continuous refractive power gradient for the whole optical zone of the cornea. Blended vision is an individualized treatment plan based on preoperative spherical aberrations and the functional age of the eye. As a result, a customized fusion of the two images for near and distance vision is created for each patient – the so-called “Blend Zone”.

    Presbyopia with LASIK

Correction of Presbyopia using Laser Blended Vision(LBV)

After the age of forty, it becomes harder to read up close. and reading glasses often become necessary. Now there is a method of correcting this problem using the Mel90 from Carl Zeiss-Meditec:: Laser Blended Vision(LBV). It uses the principle of monovision, in a better and more efficient way.

Mr.Jose Lora visited us on 29th August. Hi came frome US and visitied Korea for business trip.
His eyes were  -2.25 -2.25*168/ -1.75-3.75*28. Ths status is  mild near sightness and  high dgree of astigmatism. And His eyes had Presbyopia so he was wearing a prograssive glasses. In that case, We recommend Laser Blended Vision surgery( LBV) for Presbyopia. He recieved an exam and surgery on the same day. He could read 20/20 with both eyes and also have a good vision in close without reading glasses.

THe advantages of our technology:(Laser Blended Vision)
-No more glasses or contact lenses
-Improvement of acceptance rate to 97% compared to standard monovision
-If you are among the 3% that dose not adapt to it, this correction is reversible.

Presbyopia at Joeunnun International Eye Center

Presbyopia develops gradually. You may first notice these signs and symptoms after age 40:
    • A tendency to hold reading material farther away to make the letters clearer
    • Blurred vision at normal reading distance
    • Eyestrain or headaches after reading or doing close work
You may notice these symptoms are worse if you are tired, drank alcohol or are in an area with dim lighting.
    When to see a doctor
See an eye doctor if blurry close-up vision is keeping you from reading, doing close work or enjoying other normal activities. He or she can determine whether you have presbyopia and advise you of your options.
Seek immediate medical care if you:
    • Have a sudden loss of vision in one eye
    • Experience sudden hazy or blurred vision
    • See flashes of light, black spots, or halos around lights

    what is presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a condition in which the eyes have difficulty in focusing on the nearby objects as people age. Our lens is the eyes automatically control the thickness to focus on the far and the close objects. However, when we reach 40, the flexibility of the lens decrease, it get thicker, and the ciliary body muscles get weaker. When this happens, the accommodation power decreases, so it gets difficult to look at the nearby objects.

    Julie's LASEK STORY

                          Julie's LASEK STORY

My LASEK experience actually started off as a favor to a friend.  I was 35 years old and had worn glasses since I was 12, so almost a third of my life.  I had thought about getting LASIK or LASEK a few times but because I had poor eye sight and because of my age I figured I wouldn’t be a candidate so I just forgot about it.  Then came the day my friend asked me to go with her to Gangnam for an eye appointment.  Not only did I agree, I asked her to make an appointment for me too.  Korea is a greatplace to get the surgery done as it is fairly cheap but still has a high quality of service.

Now that I had decided to at least do an initial consultation, deciding what clinic to go to was another question.  Together my friend and I looked online at various blogs, websites, and ads.  They all offered the same services and prices and there were so many to choose from we were getting overwhelmed.  We made appointments at a few different clinics around the Gangnam Station area as we were travelling from Suwon so wanted something not too hard to get to.  We went to these clinics over a couple weekends and in the end I chose Joeunnun Vision Clinic.  This clinic was actually the least well-known to us based on our Internet research but they won me over.  Their service is excellent, as well as their prices but what really sealed the deal was their equipment.  They had the most up-to-date equipment on the market, which was safer and more effective.  While the other clinics also had great services and prices, their equipment was one generation behind that of Joeunnn Vision Clinic and since they were going to be messing with my eyes…I wanted the best.

When we arrived at the clinic, the staff were friendly and professional.  They had one of their English speaking staff members help me fill out the forms and then off we went for an hour-long barrage of tests.  At the end of all the tests, came the personal consultation with a clinic representative who went through the options.  It turns out that I was able to do either LASIK or LASEK because I had thick corneas and although my vision was REALLY bad with high myopia, I had low astigmatism.  They suggested LASEK as my safest option and the best bet for 20/20 vision.  I agreed with their assessment as LASEK doesn’t produce a permanent corneal flap (unlike LASIK) which could potentially be displaced in the future, it is less likely to exacerbate eye dryness, and uses less of the cornea.  This last one was a deciding factor for me because I knew there was a risk of regression and wanted enough cornea remaining in case I needed to have another surgery in the future.  The downside of LASEK is that there is pain for the first few days after the surgery and it takes time for your vision to improve to the desired result.
You are able to have your consultation and surgery all in the same day as long as you have made an appointment beforehand but since I had decided on LASEK, I knew I would need more than a weekend to heal so I made my appointment for the winter break when I would have a week to lay in bed and relax.

It is now 6 months after my surgery.  I have just had my final monthly checkup and was told to come back in 3 months for a regular checkup.  I have better than 20/20 vision and am enjoying being glasses free.  It actually took me a few months after the surgery before I felt comfortable throwing away my old glasses, contacts and prescription sunglasses but when I finally did, it was liberating.  No more steamy glasses in winter or when going inside to an air-conditioned room after sweating on a hot humid summer day.  No more sweaty nose-pieces and sore ears.  No more having to carry two pairs of glasses…one for inside and one for out.  It was 100% worth it and if I could go back in time, I would not only choose to do it again but I would choose to do it sooner.  I would also still choose Joeunnun Vision Clinic to do the surgery as they gave me the best imaginable service and results I could only dream for.
Thank you to everyone at Joeunnun Vision Clinic.

All-Laser AMARIS 750s LASEK at Kangnam Joeunnun International Eye Clinic

What is special about All-Laser AMARIS LASEK?

In all-laser LASEK, only Schwind AMARIS 750s laser is used throughout the procedure. Since no physical or chemical methods, such as knife, brush, or alcohol are used during corneal epithelial removal, there is no physical or chemical contact with the cornea. The laser is programmed for individual prescription, and the surface of the cornea under the epithelium is lasered for vision correction.

Major advantages of All-Laser AMARIS LASEK

    • In All-Laser LASEK, only AMARIS 750s laser is used to ablate both the corneal epithelium and stroma all at once.
    • There is no risk of physical damage in the corneal stroma because knife, brush, or epithelial isolator is not used during the procedure.
    • There is no risk of chemical stimulation, inflammation, or toxicity because alcohol or any type of chemicals is not used during the procedure.
    • There is no risk of infection and surgical error because the surgery is hands-free and is performed solely by the most advanced laser.
    • The epithelium is not overly removed because the location and the shape of the removal area are precisely designed by laser.
    • Only the necessary, mininum amount of epithelium is removed. Therefore, it has relatively fast recovery time and less pain.
    • With AMARIS laser about 50-100% faster than other types of laser, it has very short laser ablation time even if the epithelium and stroma are all removed.

    All-laser LASEK procedure

The surgical procedure is very simple, so there are almost no surgical variables.
    1. Topical anesthesia is applied to both eyes.
    2. Laser cuts the corneal epithelium and stroma successively.
    3. The surgery is completed after the therapeutic lenses are put on.

Kangnam Joeunnun International Eye Clinic is offering a huge promotion on All-Laser LASEK throughout this summer. If you have questions about the LASEK procedure and its cost, please contact us by visiting our website or via contact information below.

MEL90 Saving LASIK/LASEK for Vision Correction

MEL 90, the newer generation excimer laser

An excimer laser is a precise computerised intrument using invisible cool UV light to change the corneal shape. This cool light laser technique is a safe process and does not affect the surrounding tissue. Each pulse of the laser removes only a minute amount of corneal tissue.
The MEL 90 utilizes innovative technology: a narrow beam (about 0.7mm wide) contacts the eye at lightning speed in a pattern that allows the debris to clear in one place before contacting that area again. This technology produces a smoother corneal shape and helps increase the accuracy and efficiency of the surgery. The MEL 90 is equipped with an active eye tracker with an excellent response time to provide high-level treatment safety with very stable results.

At Kangnam Joeunnun International Eye Center, we have been using this new Zeiss excimer laser MEL 90 for refractive eye surgery. Unique product like the FLEXIQUENCE switch function, the ablation profile Triple-A and the outstanding intra-operative ablation speed up to 1.3 seconds per diopter create entirely new treatment prospects.

    FLEXIQUENCE - Applied flexibility

The FLEXIQUENCE switch function lets you flexibly choose between 250Hz and 500Hz frequency. You can have twice the speed in a fraction of a second with a simple touch of the finger - enabling you to leverage both proven reliability and new treatment opportunities.

    Triple-A Advanced Ablation Algorithm

The MEL 90 also features the Triple-A Advanced Ablation Algorithm. As a single ablation profile for a widde range of sphero-cylindrical (SCA) corrections, it simplifies treatment planning. Triple-A offers a high degree of precision and predictability. It comprises an aspherically opimized design that also focuses on minimal tissue removal.

Comparison of the amount of tissue removal
